Charting Hockey: Brent Seabrook’s game on decline for Blackhawks

On Saturday night, the Blackhawks faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Blackhawks claimed an overtime win and continued their march to postseason readiness.

While the game featured exciting play and highlight-reel goals, Brent Seabrook caught my eye. The veteran defenseman is in the midst of a typical campaign. Seabrook’s already compiled 35 points, which is right in line with his yearly average. He’s logged the second most average ice time, trailing only Duncan Keith. His shot share numbers are positive.

Yet, despite the strong slate of standard counting stats, the advanced stats are much more skeptical of Seabrook’s play.
