Breaking down the implications of the Andrew MacDonald injury

Over the past week, the Philadelphia Flyers received their first introduction to the 2017-18 injury bug. But even with Wayne Simmonds briefly giving the team a scare, Jordan Weal missing two games with an upper-body issue and Taylor Leier being a surprise scratch on Saturday afternoon, the team faced mostly minor issues. None of the three players were expected to miss much time, nor did it appear their injuries were especially serious.

On Sunday afternoon, however, the innocuous “day-to-day” tag was not part of a new injury-related press release. Instead, the team announced that defenseman Andrew MacDonald would miss between four and six weeks with a lower-body issue, which occurred in Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
