Matt Calvert has left the Blue Jackets' road trip and returned to Columbus after absorbing a big hit in the third period of Friday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The club is officially listing him as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He won't play on Monday when the Blue Jackets play the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden.
At 4:52 of the third period, Calvert was sent sailing off his skates with a hard shoulder-to-shoulder check by Tampa Bay defenseman Dan Girardi, a blast that dislodged Calvert's helmet. He slammed into the boards in front of the Lightning bench.
