On Friday, before the start of the NHL Draft, the Blackhawks traded their 2021 first- and second-round picks, 2022 first-round pick and Adam Boqvist to the Blue Jackets for defenseman Seth Jones, a 2021 first-round pick, and a 2022 sixth-round pick. Chicago then extended Jones eight years for a $9.5 million dollar cap hit.
The Blackhawks’ first-round pick in 2021 is 12th overall, although actually the 11th selection in the NHL draft, thanks to the Coyotes forfeiting their pick. The second rounder is 44th overall. The pick coming back is 32nd overall, which the Blue Jackets acquired from the Lightning.
