Blackhawks still patiently waiting on Nick Schmaltz’s decision

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Schmaltz has yet to make a decision on whether to turn pro, Blackhawks assistant general manager Norm Maciver said on Tuesday.

Schmaltz, a Blackhawks’ 2014 first-round pick, won the national championship with North Dakota this past season. He finished fifth in the country with 35 assists and tied for 17th with 46 points in 37 games.

Just as Blackhawks general Stan Bowman said last month, Maciver said on Tuesday the Blackhawks are giving Schmaltz his space and aren’t pushing for an answer.

“As of right now, there hasn’t been any talk from either side,” Maciver said of recent communication with Schmaltz.
