The Chicago Blackhawks are going back to their roots for next year’s Winter Classic against the Boston Bruins at Notre Dame Stadium. Chicago will wear uniforms from back in the 1920s and ’30s for the annual New Year’s Day outdoor game, the team announced Friday morning.
The logo features a black background with white lettering ‘BLACKHAWKS’ wrapped around the top and ‘CHICAGO’ at the bottom. The original logo from that time featured the team name as Black Hawks. The name wasn’t officially changed to a compound word until 1986 when someone discovered the team’s original NHL contract indicated it should be.
