The Rockford IceHogs announced Thursday they signed forward Mathias From to a professional tryout contract. The deal brings the Chicago Blackhawks’ 2016 fifth-round pick to North America, although not on a NHL contract.
From, 20, scored two goals with three assists in 21 games this season for Roglke BK in the Swedish Hockey League. He also spent some time in Sweden’s second league, Allsvenskan, where he also had the same point production in 23 contests with Södertälje SK and AIK. He again had equaled his offensive figures in five playoffs games with AIK.
The Danish forward caught the hockey world’s attention at the World Junior Championship, where he scored twice and had one assists in three games in 2017.
