Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat named 2017 CHL Player of the Year

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat added more hardware to his trophy case Saturday when he was named the 2016-17 Sportsnet’s Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year.

DeBrincat, a 2016 second-round pick by the Blackhawks, completed his third straight 100-point and 50-goal season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters. The 19-year-old led the league with 65 goals, 62 assists and 127 points in 63 regular-season games. For a bit of perspective, that’s three goals more than Patrick Kane scored in his one season in the OHL. DeBrincat also won the Red Tilson Trophy as OHL player of the year on May 5.
