The Chicago Blackhawks placed veteran defenseman Michael Rozsival on long-term injured reserve Monday.
Rozsival is signed to a one-year, $650,000 contract. By placing Rozsival on LTIR, the Hawks give themselves extra flexibility against the salary cap.
The 39-year-old Rozsival did not pass his physical at the start of training camp in Septemner and has not been able to participate in team activities.
Rozsival’s agent, Ritch Winter, said prior to camp that his client was dealing with post-concussion symptoms from a punch by Arizona’s Nick Ritche in April. The Czech blueliner had surgery to repair facial fractures and Ritche was suspended two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for the play.
