The Blackhawks selected defenseman Henri Jokiharju with the 29th overall pick of the NHL draft on Friday.
Jokiharju, who is from Finland, played last season with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. He had nine goals and 39 assists in 71 games.
Jokiharju said earlier in the week he was hoping to be drafted by the Blackhawks.
“I would love it if the Blackhawks pick me,” Jokiharju said while training in Geneva, Illinois. “The Blackhawks have been, after 2010 when they won the Cup, they’ve been my favorite team. Watching franchise players, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, how they lead a team, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, those guys are really good models for me.
