Three games into a first-round series against the Blues, the Blackhawks’ search continues for quality depth among their bottom six forwards.
Following another round of salary-cap related roster upheaval, the Blackhawks had multiple roles vacated last summer, after winning their third Stanley Cup title in six seasons. As a result, they’ve lacked balanced scoring all season.
A trade with the Montreal Canadiens around the NHL trade deadline to acquire a pair of veteran forwards was supposed to solve the issue. Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise were acquired in exchange for a package that included rookie center Phillip Danault, but they haven’t had the desired impact Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman envisioned.
