Sweden under-20 coach Tomas Monten hadn’t planned to include forward Tim Soderlund on his World Junior Championship team.
Soderlund had been hurt when the team was first assembled in August, so he missed vital time. When the team regathered in November, Soderlund was invited again, but Monten wasn’t expecting him to be among the final roster selections when the tournament began in Canada in December.
Soderlund changed his mind.
“I didn’t think a lot of him because I didn’t think he was in the mix for the team,” Monten said recently by phone. “But he was so good in November when he played for us.
