The Blackhawks' newest center prospect, Matthew Highmore, reminds his current coach of a former Blackhawks center prospect.
Saint John Sea Dogs coach Danny Flynn previously coached Phillip Danault with the Moncton Wildcats, another QMJHL team. Danault was a first-round draft pick by the Blackhawks in 2011, was traded to the Montreal Canadiens last season and is now centering their top line.
“He reminds me a lot of Phillip Danault at his age,” said Flynn, who also was previously an NHL assistant coach. “He’s a solid two-way center.”
Highmore certainly cost the Blackhawks less than Danault. After being bypassed in the NHL draft during his eligible years, Highmore, who recently turned 21, was free to sign with any NHL team.
