The wait is over. The NHL finally announced Tuesday a salary cap ceiling of $73 million for the 2016-17 season.
It’s decent news for the Chicago Blackhawks. They would have preferred if the cap ceiling had increased a bit more than $1.6 million from the previous season, but it’s better than the alternative, which had been rumored in recent months.
Where the Blackhawks stand now is they have $65,216,794 committed to the 2016-17 season already. That number is comprised of 15 player cap hits, last season’s overage of $3.07 million and a $1.25 million cap hit retained from Rob Scuderi last season.
