Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman has found some breathing room from the NHL salary cap.
The Blackhawks traded forward Andrew Shaw to the Montreal Canadiens for two second-round picks, the No. 39 and No. 45. The restricted free agent reportedly was asking for at least $4.5 million per season in negotiations, and Bowman and company were no longer interested in bringing him back at that price. And with Shaw gone to Montreal, the Bowman doesn't feel pushed against the cap.
Stan Bowman won't say for sure that all current roster players are now safe, but says, "We don't have a cap problem anymore.
