MONTREAL — The Chicago Blackhawks may never be short of Swedish defensemen.
From Niklas Hjalmarsson on down, the Blackhawks have them stockpiled in the organization. Gustav Forsling was the latest one to make it over. And Lucas Carlsson showed at the recent World Junior Championship he may be next in line.
The 19-year-old Carlsson, a Blackhawks fourth-round draft pick in 2016, had been getting significant minutes for Brynas in the SHL, but further showcased his skills while helping Sweden to an undefeated run through pool play and a fourth-place finish. He had one goal, two assists and was among Sweden’s ice time leaders throughout the seven games.
