The Blackhawks made a trio of organizational moves on Monday morning, including one historic hire: naming US Women’s National Ice Hockey Team forward Kendall Coyne Schofield as player development coach and youth hockey growth specialist.
Coyne Schofield becomes the first female to serve as a player development coach in the Blackhawks organization.
It’s a homecoming for Coyne Schofield, a native of Palos Heights in Chicago’s southwest suburbs and a graduate of Sandburgh High School in Orland Park. After a four-year career at Northeastern University, where Coyne Schofield earned the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as the top player in women’s college hockey during the 2015-16 season, she went on to a storied international career with Team USA, winning six world champions and two Olympic medals: including the gold in 2018.
