INDIANAPOLIS — The Bears were eager to see how Eddy Piñeiro responded to being the unchallenged kicker on the roster. But general manager Ryan Pace surely had his eye on Colts’ kicker Cole Hedlund.
The undrafted free agent from North Texas has been impressive as a stand-in for veteran Adam Vinatieri, who is recovering from a knee injury. The 5-9, 162-pound Hedlund made 4-of-5 field goal attempts in the Colts’ first two preseason games — from 42, 44, 25 and 41 yards. He was wide right on a 51-yarder.
Alas, Hedlund didn’t get a chance to show the Bears’ brass what he can do in person.
