Based strictly on Player Efficiency Rating, no player in the NBA was more of a bargain last season than Isaiah Thomas. The six players ranked ahead of him in PER made an average of $25 million and none of them made less than Kawhi Leonard’s $17.6 million.
By comparison, Thomas was an absolute steal for the Boston Celtics at $6.5 million. Given the explosion of salaries around the league the past few years, it’s no wonder Thomas keeps referring to the Brinks truck he expects to drive off the free-agent parking lot next summer.
Whether or not it’s the Cavs handing him that type of check remains to be seen.
