BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — About the time Bears rookies James Daniel, Roquan Smith and Bilal Nichols were being born or taking their first baby steps, a multi-purpose Bears running back — Raymont Harris — had some fun with those multiple purposes and declared himself “The Ultraback.” Harris could and would block, serving as fullback and lead blocker for Lewis Tillman, then had led the Bears in rushing a couple of years and averaged 30-plus catches in his three full Bears seasons.
Now there are two serious contenders for the honor of continuing the self-proclaimed legend of the Ultraback. And either or both have the distinct possibility of eclipsing the legend in not one, but multiple areas, and in the process establishing themselves as worthy successors to the title.
