MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — At the Chiefs’ low point, Patrick Mahomes woke up.
With the game perhaps one play from being decided, the Chiefs quarterback snapped out of whatever funk he began the Super Bowl in — it was certainly caused by the 49ers’ monster defense — and became the player who’s captivated the NFL for two full seasons.
The result — two touchdowns in a three-minute, 27-second span to steal the Super Bowl from the 49ers, 31-20, at Hard Rock Stadium.
Here was the nadir: on second-and-15, down 10 with 7:17 to play, Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill caught ta 16-yard pass.
