Danton Cole boasts an impressive hockey resume — one that includes an NCAA title, a Stanley Cup championship and coaching stints at practically all levels. But the 50-year-old Cole, who grew up in Lansing and graduated from Waverly High, hopes his latest stop will also be his last.
Cole, who was a standout at Michigan State under legendary coach Ron Mason from 1985-89, was named MSU's head coach back in April — an opportunity that he still calls a “dream job.”
As he was preparing his team for conference play this weekend, Cole shared his thoughts with The Athletic about coming home to East Lansing, his “mission” with the program and what sort of imprint he wants to leave on MSU as a coach.
