The Bears invited offensive tackle Jake Long in for a workout Thursday, but have decided to go in a different direction.
Former Carolina Panthers tackle Nate Chandler reportedly plans to sign with the Bears, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Chandler, who worked out with the Detroit Lions earlier this week, was cut by the Panthers in March after missing the entire 2015 season with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old lineman started in 11 games at right tackle in 2014 and eight games at both guard and tackle in 2013, bringing the type of versatility the Bears need up front.
