Reflecting on the occasion of Brian Urlacher joining George, Butkus, Singletary and other Bears in the Hall of Fame

Brian was always way, way more comfortable in front of 70,000 people in Lambeau Field, squaring off against Brett Favre, than he was in front of a microphone. And so it was on Saturday night, when 54 struggled at times to hold it together even with a prepared speech.

“I was a football player,” Urlacher said, “but that’s not who I am.”

Which pretty much said it all: “I just want to be remembered as a good teammate. That’s it.”

No shortage of those teammates in Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium: Lance Briggs, Roberto Garza, Olin Kreutz, Greg Olsen, Julius Peppers, Charles Tillman.
