Play by play: Phillies announcers embrace roles, challenges of calling a rebuilding team

PHILADELPHIA – Phillies radio analyst Larry Andersen rarely sugarcoats his thoughts during a game.
Eventually, during Sunday’s broadcast from Atlanta, he couldn’t hold in his frustrations any longer.
“What does an umpire have to do to get fired? Like steal or commit a felony?” Andersen wondered.
Andersen has no qualms criticizing umpires. His bluntness is part of the reason he’s beloved by many Phillies fans.
