Ryan Pace needs to beat the odds. While Chicago has a lot of cap room next year, in order for the Bears to be rebuilt into a contender, the team needs to have home-grown talent, and it needs depth. While it is possible for a team to “get hot” at the right moment, the best teams contend every year by building a group that keeps moving forward when key players move on.
So far, Ryan Pace has shown himself to be reasonably adept at navigating free agency and at finding quality players in the draft. It is still really early to make a prediction on how things are going to turn out, but most signs seem to suggest that the Bears are headed in the right direction.
