The Chicago Bears made 35 moves on Saturday, trimming their roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players. Here’s a closer look at the final cuts:
Most significant move: Veteran outside linebacker Pernell McPhee coming off the PUP list in time for Week 1. McPhee takes up the most salary cap space ($7.825) on Chicago’s defense. Although McPhee is basically a part-time player due to chronic knee troubles, the Bears still have to find a way to get a little bang for their buck – McPhee only has 10 sacks in 23 games with the Bears. It would’ve looked really bad had McPhee began the year on PUP – again.
