INDIANAPOLIS — By the time offensive linemen stepped to the microphones Saturday, the NFL scouting combine had pretty much wrapped up. But for the Bears, this is the most thrilling part of the draft, and they spent all week meeting with offensive linemen.
Their surest path to being competitive is to get quarterback Caleb Williams rolling, and the best way to help that happen is to build him a new offensive line that makes everything easier. After a season in which Williams took a league-high 68 sacks and had virtually no running game to take some of the burden off him, the Bears are desperate to renovate the line with as many as four incoming starters.
