Third-string quarterback Tyler Bray was promoted to the active roster Saturday so he could be a sounding board for new starter Nick Foles on the sideline, Bears coach Matt Nagy said Monday.
The Bears called Bray up from the practice squad but made him inactive 90 minutes before kickoff of the Bears-Colts game. Inactive players can be on the sideline, while practice squad players cannot.
“Having him come up and just be a voice for [Foles] ... I think sometimes those are parts of the game that are nice to have,” he said.
Bray and Foles were teammates on the 2016 Chiefs team, where Matt Nagy was an assistant.
