This is one of the wildest weekends of the year for NFL personnel departments, and the Bears’ situation is further complicated by the fact that they have a short turnaround between the end of the preseason and the season opener Thursday against the Packers.
The first step is cutting the roster from 90 players to 53 by Saturday at 3 p.m. Then the Bears can make waiver claims, and anyone they pick up will require them to clear an additional roster spot by Sunday. Once that settles, they’ll assemble a 10-man practice squad.
