Lance Briggs might find himself struggling to remember a former teammate’s name. Maybe, in the middle of a sentence, he’ll be stumped when trying to think of a word he’s used a thousand times.
And then the former Bears linebacker will ask himself, “Could this be CTE?”
CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, is a degenerative brain disease commonly associated with repeated concussions. And the possibility of it is haunting for former NFL players.
Briggs recalled a recent conversation with former Packers quarterback Brett Favre.
“He told me he was always great at remembering people’s names,” Briggs said.
