LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears took a calculated risk in their pursuit of Oakland’s Khalil Mack -- the kind of transformational pass-rusher that has eluded them for years.
Make no mistake: the price tag for acquiring Mack will be steep.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Bears are poised to send the Oakland Raiders the most compensation ever for a defensive player since 1988, eclipsing what Minnesota surrendered to Kansas City (one first-round pick, two third-round choices and a swap of sixth-rounders) to obtain defensive end Jared Allen in 2008.
