Fales, defense lead Bears to victory

David Fales passed for two touchdowns and the Bears defense generated three takeaways, seven sacks and one touchdown in a 24-0 win in the preseason finale at Soldier Field.

It was the Bears' first preseason shutout since a 16-0 victory over the Cardinals in Arizona on Aug. 13, 1994, a span of 89 games.

Fales started the contest and played until late in the third quarter, completing 14 of 18 passes for 131 yards with no interceptions or sacks and a 134.0 passer rating. The second-year pro threw TD passes of 19 yards to Marc Mariani and 11 yards to Ify Umodu.
