When mock draft season opened, a popular pick for the Chicago Bears at seven was Washington nose tackle Danny Shelton. Many scouts/draftniks thought that the 6'2, 339 pounder would be a perfect fit for Chicago's brand new 3-4 defense.
As the weeks trickled away, Danny Shelton started falling down the mocks, with the experts claiming a nose tackle didn't bring value at 7. "Value" has a different meaning for all 32 teams, but history tells us that nose tackles don't go in the top 10 very often. B.J. Raji went 9th overall to the Green Bay Packers in 2009, Dontari Poe went 11th in 2012 to the Kansas City Chiefs, Haloti Ngata went 12th to the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and Vince Wilfork went 21st to the New England Patriots in 2004.
