In a move meant to help trim their roster down to the required 53 players, the Chicago Bears waived wide receiver Tanner Gentry. Reported first by Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times, this move is arguably the most surprising cut the team has made thus far.
Gentry made a name for himself throughout training camp with his incredible catches. The undrafted rookie out of Wyoming also had a decent preseason, racking up four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. He quickly became a fan favorite among Bears fans, and, when Chicago cut Victor Cruz, it seemed likely that the rookie’s spot on the 53-man roster was safe.
