Doug Buffone, who passed away last Monday at the age of 70, appeared in 186 games over 14 seasons with the Bears from 1966-79—and his final one may have been the most memorable.
With an epic victory, a miraculous comeback nearly 1,000 miles away and a family tragedy, Dec. 16, 1979 was, as one sportswriter noted at the time, “the most unbelievable day” in Bears history.
