Bryan Bickell will end his career where it all started.
The Blackhawks announced Wednesday morning Bickell has signed a one-day contract and will retire with the team.
Bickell was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2004 and spent nine seasons with them. After being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and originally retired after playing in one final game last season.
“As any professional athlete will tell you, stepping away from the game is extremely difficult especially given my circumstances,” Bickell said in a statement. “I’m honored to be retiring a Chicago Blackhawk — a team that has given me and my family so many great memories.
