Behind Mitch Trubisky’s benching and Nick Foles’ rally

ATLANTA — The decision wasn’t made quickly, but the declarations were ripping-off-a Band-Aid brief.

Mitch Trubisky had thrown another inexcusable interception in the third quarter Sunday — into a zone defender he didn’t see, with his team down 13 — when he jogged to the sideline of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor gave him the news.

“Nick is up,” he said.

The backup, Nick Foles, got his promotion from head coach Matt Nagy.

“You’re in,” Nagy said. “Get warm.”

And then Foles got red-hot, leading the Bears to another improbable comeback — this one a 30-26 win against the hapless Falcons.
