Eddy Pineiro seems to have won the Bears’ kicker derby six days before the team holds its first padded practice.
The Bears on Tuesday waived Ramiz Ahmed, the former Nevada player they signed in April to push Pineiro, who was their regular kicker last year.
Last week, special teams coordinator Chris Tabor said Pineiro added weight and decreased his body fat, as the team had asked him to do during the offseason. He said the fall was “jumping off his foot really well” during the early part of training camp.
“Last year was his first full NFL season,” he said of Pineiro.
