According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are going to release defensive back Buster Skrine.
Letting him go right now would create about a little over $2.7 million in salary cap space with $3.3 million of dead money, but if the Bears wait and designate him a June 1 cut the move would save the them nearly $5 million. His contract was through the 2021 season, but there were two void years tacked on to his deal through 2023.
Skrine has manned the nickelback spot for the Bears since the 2019 season, but a concussion ended his 2020 after week 13.
