Zach Miller’s long recovery from a devastating knee injury will not end with a return to the football field.
The Bears tight end announced on Instagram he’s retiring from football because of his injury.
“The time has come to move on from playing the game of football,” Miller wrote. “I would love more than anything to step on Soldier Field one last time but I physically cannot give the game and our fans what they deserve.”
The 34-year-old tight end expressed his gratitude to the McCaskey family, the Bears organization and their fans.
The team kept Miller around all of last season, knowing he wouldn’t be able to play, to allow him to rehab with their doctors in their facilities with his medical bills covered by his contract.
