A self-described “numbers guy,” Ben Johnson nonetheless decided to give poetry a try Tuesday. The Bears coach stood at a podium in front of about 100 guests at the Brian Piccolo Awards and began reading from a piece of paper.
The poem Johnson wrote was called “More Than A Jersey,” and was a tribute to Piccolo and awards host Pat McCaskey, the Bears’ board member who is known to read poetry at the annual event honoring players who best resemble the spirit of the late running back:
He wore the ‘C’ upon his chest/
Not just in games but in each test.
