The Bears are releasing cornerback Prince Amukamara and wide receiver Taylor Gabriel, per ESPN.
The deals were somewhat expected — particularly the parting with Gabriel, a speedster slowed by concussions last year. The Bears don’t have a starting cornerback to replace the veteran Amukamara, who has started 44 games over the previous three seasons.
The Bears made the moves to increase their salary cap space before the start of the league year March 18. They have about $13.4 million in salary cap space devoted to their 51 most expensive contracts, per Spotrac.com. The league average is $43.
