The Bears cut little-used running back Mike Davis on Saturday, according to NFL Network, ending his two-year, $6 million contract halfway through his first season with the team.
Davis quickly became expendable when rookie David Montgomery showed he was ready for a role as the team’s primary running back.
Davis played 14 percent of the offensive snaps and didn’t get more than 15 plays in a game after the opener. He had 11 carries for 25 yards.
Shortly after the news broke, Davis tweeted, “Appreciate you Chicago.” The Bears have until 3 p.m. to make the move official if they want to add a player to their roster before facing the Lions on Sunday.
