Bears promote QB Tyler Bray to active roster

The Bears promoted third-string quarterback Tyler Bray to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Colts.

While it’s a curious move — Bray has never been active when the two quarterbacks ahead of him are completely healthy — it takes advantage of a new rule. All NFL teams can promote up to two practice squad players to their active roster each Sunday, increasing the roster to 55, without having to demote someone to create room.

Bray was already on the Bears’ practice squad protection list, meaning teams could not poach him with the promise of an active roster spot.
