The Bears’ hometown pitch to St. Rita and NIU alum Kenny Golladay, considered the best receiver on the free-agent market, wasn’t good enough.
Saturday, Golladay agreed to sign a four-year, $72 million deal with the Giants, receiving $40 million in guarantees, per NFL Network.
Golladay met with Bears coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace on Wednesday night. He flew to New York to meet with the Giants on Friday.
Strapped for salary cap space, the Bears couldn’t afford to pay him what the Giants did. They likely pushed a short-term contract, trying to convince him that next year’s free agent market would be more profitable.
