LOS ANGELES — Burned once by a miss, Matt Nagy didn’t let Eddy Pineiro try a 49-yard field goal in the first quarter.
The Bears coach was probably right.
Pineiro missed two field goals in the first quarter Sunday night against the Rams. The rookie missed a 48-yarder three feet left at the end of the Bears’ first drive. Rather than let him try a 49-yarder on the next possession, Nagy opted to go for it on fourth-and-9. Taylor Gabriel dropped Mitch Trubisky’s pass, and the Bears turned the ball over on downs.
At the end of the Bears’ third drive, Nagy ran Pineiro onto the field to try a 47-yarder.
