Bears decision to give Gould the boot more than money

As Bears fans feverishly refreshed their Twitter timelines for big news about the team’s finalized 53-man roster, they were only slightly appeased. Marc Mariani was cut? Yawn. Not Jacquizz Rodgers! Tony Moeaki, we hardly knew ye.

All of that took a turn Sunday, when ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that Robbie Gould, the former All-Pro kicker and the franchise’s leading scorer, had been cut.

Not long after that news broke, the Chicago Tribune‘s Brad Biggs reported the Bears were signing Gould’s replacement, veteran Connor Barth, who was just released by New Orleans, and Sporting News columnist Alex Marvez broke the news the Bears were signing former Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton, who was just released by Green Bay.
