The Bears cut their quarterbacks room in half but had few surprises before the NFL’s cut deadline Tuesday afternoon. Receiver-turned-running back Velus Jones was the most notable bubble player to make the 53-man roster.
Quarterbacks gone are veteran Brett Rypien and rookie Austin Reed. Both had strong training camps — Rypien had a 131.4 passer rating, Reed a 117.4 — but the Bears were comfortable keeping just starter Caleb Williams and backup Tyson Bagent on the roster.
