Bears begin clearing tight end logjam with release of Ben Braunecker

The Bears announced on Thursday afternoon that they've released tight end Ben Braunecker.

Braunecker, who came to the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2016, played in 47 games, starting seven games and catching 13 passes with a touchdown. His only regular season score came last season, when he caught an 18-yard touchdown pass against the Lions at Soldier Field. He was also a regular contributor on special teams.

With his release, the Bears now have eight tight ends still on the roster: Jimmy Graham, Cole Kmet, Demetrius Harris, Adam Shaheen, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, Darion Clark, and Eric Saubert.
